In a significant move towards sustainable agriculture, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tapaz, in collaboration with key partners, has successfully conducted a training program on contour farming integrated with cacao production in Barangay Libertad, today, August 29, 2024. This initiative aims to equip local farmers with innovative farming techniques that promote environmental conservation while boosting cacao yields.
The training, led by experts Engr. Joy Ayupan and Kim Barua, focused on the principles and practical applications of contour farming, a method that helps prevent soil erosion and improves water retention. These techniques are especially crucial in hilly areas like Brgy. Libertad, where traditional farming methods often lead to soil degradation.
“By integrating contour farming with cacao production, we are not only enhancing the productivity of our farmers but also ensuring that our agricultural practices are sustainable and resilient to climate change,” said Engr. Joy Ayupan during the training session.
Brgy. Captain Gaspar Hupanda expressed his gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing the positive impact it will have on the local farming community. “This training is a valuable opportunity for our farmers. It empowers them with knowledge and skills that will lead to better harvests and a more sustainable livelihood.”
The beneficiaries of this training were the hardworking farmers of Brgy. Libertad, who are now equipped with the tools and techniques necessary to implement contour farming effectively. This initiative is part of the broader efforts by LGU Tapaz to support agricultural development and improve the economic well-being of local farmers.
