The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tapaz, through its Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), successfully conducted a three-day Contingency Planning Workshop from November 13 to 15, 2024, at Smallville 21 Hotel, Iloilo City.

The workshop was facilitated by personnel from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) of Tapaz headed by LDRRMO III Bridgette Abordo. Experts from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) were also present to share their knowledge and expertise, ensuring the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of contingency planning processes.

Contingency Planning (CP) is a proactive approach aimed at preparing for potential disasters or emergencies, ensuring that communities like Tapaz can respond effectively to minimize risks, save lives, and protect resources. The workshop covered various key areas, including hazard identification, scenario building, and crafting actionable response strategies tailored to the municipalityโ€™s unique vulnerabilities and capacities.

Participants, including MDRRMC members from different sectors, collaborated to create contingency plans for specific disaster scenarios. These plans are essential in strengthening Tapazโ€™s disaster preparedness and ensuring timely and coordinated responses during emergencies.

Mayor Roberto Palomar expressed his gratitude to the organizers and participants, emphasizing the importance of disaster preparedness in safeguarding the welfare of Tapaznons. โ€œThis workshop is a step in ensuring that Tapaz is equipped to handle any unforeseen events. With these plans in place, we can better protect our community and build resilience,โ€ he said.

The LGU remains committed to promote disaster-resilient communities by continuously enhancing local capacities through training, collaboration, and proactive measures.
