The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) officially turned over the Small Water Impounding System (SWIS) to the community of Barangay Sta Ana Tapaz, Capiz, December 10, 2024.
Representing Mayor Roberto โNonongโ Palomar, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) Engr. Neriza Pacenio highlighted the significant impact of the SWIS in improving water resource management and supporting local agriculture.
โThis project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable development and resource conservation for the benefit of our farmers and the community,โ she said on behalf of the Mayor.
The ceremony was also graced by OIC PENRO Ernest Federiso and Ms. Dessa De Pedro, who reiterated DENRโs dedication to advancing projects that foster environmental and agricultural sustainability.
The SWIS tank is strategically located within a 50-hectare plantation established in 2027 through a contract between DENR and LGU Tapaz. This facility will significantly aid in water storage and distribution, benefiting local farmers and enhancing the plantationโs sustainability.
The signing of the agreement between DENR and LGU Tapaz marked a key highlight of the event, reinforcing their shared commitment to the projectโs maintenance and long-term success.
Barangay officials of Sta Ana, led by Hon. Jimmy Garbosa, facilitated the program, ensuring the smooth execution of the ceremony. The SWIS is expected to boost agricultural productivity, support local livelihoods, and enhance climate resilience in the barangay.
